Screencasting: A New Form of Communications – with guest Scott Skibell
Professional screencaster and trainer Scott Skibell publishes screencasting content on his sites Macscreencasting.com and SkillCasting.com. I have asked Scott to share some of his thoughts about screencasting with our readers. The following is the first of a two part series on Screencasting as a new way of communicating.
Screencasting is a new form of communications. It enables one person to demonstrate “how” they do something on their computer so others can do it too. It’s an incredibly effective way to communicate. However, screencasting opens the door for so much more than just computer how-to’s.
Screencasting is effective because it incorporates visual, audio, and when done properly, even kinesthetic elements into our communications. Studies show that the more senses we can incorporate into our message, the more memorable it is, and the more it sticks. Screencasting allows us to emotionally engage audiences by bringing our personalities forward and by telling a story. In short, screencasting transcends simple tutorials because it interjects a human element into our communications.
In part one below [8:30], I share perspectives on how savvy individuals leverage screencasting. In it, I’ll challenge you on how you’re using this technology, and hopefully open your eyes to the implications. You’ll have to let me know your thoughts in the comments.
(You can see also see this on Scott’s MacScreencasting site)
In part two, I’ll explore different ways businesses can apply screencasting. Remember, it’s more than just a training tool for them too. It’s a new form of communications.
